Training: Personal Story for Testimony

We salute all frontliners!.png

TopicPersonal Story for Testimony

DescriptionPersonal Story for Testimony will teach you how to bring personal experiences into the public forum and use your experiences to move decision makers, get media attention, and build your base. Testimony—providing public comment before a decision-making body—is an effective tactic because it helps policymakers understand how an issue, policy or situation affects people across the state, presents difficulties or addresses needs. Public testimony also gives you the opportunity to show your support for what is being considered by the legislature and center the voices of those affected most deeply by systemic issues. Join us at this training, hosted Rising Organizers and Empower DC, to learn how to turn your personal experiences into powerful stories that create change.

1_update.jpg

Rising Organizers Lit Club  is here to dive into big topics and break them down into local actions you can take right now. This month: housing, gentrification, and cultural change in our nation's cities.

Thursday, April 1st at 6 pm ESTin partnership with the Bertelsmann Foundation, we’ll be screening Go-Go City: Displacement and Protest in Washington DC, filmed and directed by Samuel George.

About the film: For decades, Washington, DC has stood as a beacon for Black culture and community. Yet a breakneck wave of gentrification threatens this history. Go-Go City dives into this rich tapestry, exploring the culture and sound of Washington, DC, as well as the forces of economic and cultural gentrification that stand to mute them. The film interweaves scenes of protest as displaced communities rally around the city’s beloved Go-Go music to retake the streets. Watch the trailer.
